the garden on the back porch is growing quite well. the berries in the back yard are ripening faster than I can pick them. the bees and the dragonflies delight me and the only problems that I've been finding the fast pace of weeds and the overgrown grape vines. Mosquitos are also a problem, but I have been able to swat faster than they bite.

so I have been harvesting herbs and raspberries. My chives, oregano, cilantro, basil (tons of), peppermint, tarragon, rosemary, and thyme are beautiful. Half of my tomato plants are setting fruit, too. I have several baby peppers I'm watching carefully. I am most pleased with my garden this year.

of my flowers, I've had success with the roses this year, lobelia, petunias, and impatiens are all perfectly set. the marigolds for some reason all shriveled up. could they have been overwatered? I can't figure out what went wrong with them. the iris were very successful, the tiger lillies are just coming in to bloom.

the lawn is a whole other problem. clover has taken over several areas in large patches. I've given up and have taken to attempt to keep those areas mowed, seeding with grass seed and watering often. it has been a beatiful summer so far, but not enough rain.

the garden on the back porch is going all right, but I was not pleased for the most part up until about two weeks ago (right before my trip). Our spring was far too wet and cold for much of anything. But now I have warm, dry weather. The beans are growing well. Lovely jalapenos all over the place. The tomatoes are tiny and green, but I'm hopeful. The most impressive growth is the yellow squash. My tomatillos got wasted by bugs. Everything else seems fine in regards to bugs. Now that it peaked over 90, the greens bolted while I was away. Just a few more weeks to first harvest. I miss the south, though. I don't have a clue how New England ever grew food enough to set a table.

Got them delivered safe and sound. Now to let them enjoy the light and new home for a week or two before moving on to new pots. Such joy!

There's been a delay in the delivery due to the cold snap in the midwest and now up here in Connecticut. But I am still so happy and can't wait to get them into my office. I spend over half the day at the office and I need to work on warming it up.
