Today
I finally scrubbed the walls and ceiling of the bathroom. I am getting
ready to paint, but am behaving rather timidly. Do I really want
light green walls in the bath? I will consult with my brother about
it. His recent visions and glimpses of peaceful scenes may inspire
me. I spent the evening at home alone (P. went out to hang with
his buds) and rearranged my bathroom cabinets. It is not too weird
a thing to do.
And
I read alot: about the cyclone in the pacific and the photographer,
Geoff Mackley, who brought the world the first
pictures; about Abilify,
a new, hopeful med for Schizophrenia; about African Dictators like
Idi Amin

World
Briefing | Africa: Nigeria: President Says Stoning Won't Happen
President Olusegun Obasanjo said the country's higher appeals
courts would quash the death-by-stoning sentences for adultery
passed by Islamic courts in the north. Mr. Obasanjo said in a
radio and television broadcast to mark Nigeria's 42nd independence
anniversary that a 31-year-old mother, Amina Lawal Kurami, and
a couple condemned to death by Muslim courts could appeal to the
Supreme Court, where they will be guaranteed justice. ''We have
never entertained doubts that whatever verdict a lower court may
give, the appellate courts will ensure that justice is done,''
he said. ''We fully understand the concerns of Nigerians and friends
of Nigeria, but we cannot imagine or envision a Nigerian being
stoned to death. It has never happened. And may it never happen.''

projects
completed:
-
cook stuff and freeze it (and share it with friends)
- watch tons of movies: Adaptation, The Unbearable Lightness of
Being, Kissing Jessica Stein, The Usual Suspects, Haxan, Amelie,
that Margaret Cho movie, Nurse Betty, Bagdad Cafe, and finally,
M.
- reading magazines to see if I want to keep them
- a little crochet work accomplished during the movies and the cookies
baking.
It
has been a most wonderful break from work. I LOVE the time off and
need to do this for myself more often.

this
is a week of freedom, work, and fun stuff with friends that I haven't
spent time with in months. goals are simple: get as much done as
possible. List of things to do:
-
finish blue and green scarf crochet'd with vintage french wool yarn
- paint ceiling of bathroom
- clean out strewn papers in office
- cook stuff and freeze it
- watch tons of movies and get up to speed on what's out
- read in spare time
- oh and cut down all of the boxes in the basement. I'm going to
be here for a while

My
staff all left for the day and I am alone listening to the Springhouse
mixed CD J. Rabid included in my shipment. Lovely stuff...and reading
through the magazines, I discovered that they originally toured
with just about everyone. I will look for their new ablum in the
coming year.
And
I recieved in the mail today my little care package from the Big
Takeover. #51 with a great Westerberg interview and another
one from The Flaming Lips (why are they advertising their wares
on television now? please tell me); Jack
Rabid presiding. and so the subscription begins. two gifts
for P included: specifically #28 containing a 'Last Interview' with
The Chills. Rock On.
Oh!
the magnificence that is the
Lord of the Rings! Even Charlie Rose repeated an interview that
he had last week with Peter Jackson and Frodo and Aragorn. I'm still
recovering, but I made it in to work on time.

took
the day off yesterday to send my brother back to Big D. Had lots
of adventures with the new security installations throughout the
Hartford airport. Lots of brand spanking new machines and their
operators listlessly hanging out in the chairs filling them up so
that the exhausted travelers hover around balancing their various
bags and packages with pity-me looks on their faces.
I
had the whole day off and used it to play with my new vacuum. I
am totally in love with new technology, even if it simply improves
the suckability mechanisms of cleaning. I needed one so badly now
that I have a long-haired cat who molts in all seasons. And she
is so lovely.
Last
night I did my darn'dest to stay awake through the West Wing. After
catching Saturday Night Live with Mr. VP, it is hard to stay interested
in the mimicry. I hope that Christian Slater gets knocked off soon.
He is so lame on the show. He hasn't even been a player in the past
few shows, but I worry about his return and anticipate it being
a 'surprise' every time I watch. Poor Mr. President. He's loosing
his mind faster than Sorkin.
For
holiday gifts this year I am collecting a nice balance between stationery
and gift certificates. It can sometimes be a welcome blessing to
live so far away from friends and family. I don't have any needs
for returns so far!
Tonight
is a big adventure with work colleagues to venture out like hobbits
into the cold, stark night to battle the minions of evil who got
in line before we did.

the
holiday parties have begun. and the chocolates and homemade cookies
are flowing throughout the building. I went about 3 full months
without any sugar crystals flowing through my system. nor caffeine.
and now I've jumped down from the high ground.
I've
been enjoying sing sing
for about a week now. fantastic arrangements not too reminiscent
of Lush, but
enough is there. Emma Anderson still knows how to say it. see me
without my pretensions.... review in Pop
Culture Press... there is also a fact-filled article on Interpol
that I'd recommend checking out, if only for the snipets of history
about Bridgeport, CT just down the street from where I live. I've
enjoyed Interpol as they play the airwaves locally, but haven't
dived in with the bucks yet.

the
day in NYC was quite a success. A handled himself perfectly
well even after he was called a shit-faced faggot in Washington
Square Park. He turned to me and laughed it off. We both laughed
it off. I laughed after I knew that he was cool with it. I dont
think that it even startled him. A had only checked out the
guy's gameboard in the chess circle, but even at a distance of 10
feet, he was noticed. Perhaps A is finally used to the abrupt
thrustings of inner anger that one encounters frequently enough
in the urban northeast. we walked past a beautiful 7' queen in white
platforms slithering up and down a placarded wall wearing a lovely
silk gown. and we ate well on burritos and mandarina jarritos. we
saw About Schmidt
and The Trials
of Henry Kissinger. Both were near great. Schmidt was very quiet
in tone and I left internally confused as to my emotional response.
Schmidt is the jerky dad that I avoided when I headed over to my
friend's house. He should live a fucked up life. I don't pity him
at all. I began be reacting viscerally to the images. I recognized
them as part of my childhood. Secondarily, I asked why Schmidt freaked
when sharing a surreal (wonderfully so) moment with Kathy Bates.
She's a naked babe in this one. and as for Kissinger, this VV
cartoon sums it up.
received
in the mail today Nick Hornby's Songbook and am pleasantly
surprised by the anecdotal approach he took to enjoining songs to
words. I highly recommend the short read.
